Health Care is in transition with increased competition, increasing regulation, and decreased reimbursements. Adena Health is an independent rural health system focused on patient care delivery in the 9 counties of Southern Ohio. Our health system faced many challenges that ultimately led us down a path to choose a new EHR (Electronic Health Record) to deliver better patient care. Some of the key drivers that drove us to select a new EHR included hosting 4 disparate medical record systems that caused patient safety concerns, patient satisfaction issues, and provider concerns over the inability to see the full clinical picture of their patients. The size of our Health System made the options extremely complex and compelled us to be creative in order to select a premier product that was affordable and could be implemented in a very unalterable Appalachian culture. Join us as we dive deeper into our journey through the implementation of a new EHR in the throes of financial constraints and a national healthcare pandemic. We will also present some valuable lessons learned that can be applied to future implementations.
